Leprosy Control Programme 1994 - 2002

 

The number of patients on treatment decreased from 127 to 113. 110 were on MDT and the 3 on monotherapy were not resident in the country. Prevalence rate at year-end 1994 was 1.88 and 0.49 per 10,000 population by October 2002.

There were 57 new cases, same level as 5 years ago, 2 were children. Among new cases Lepromatous rate was 60% and deformity rate 30%.

In the forecast showing elimination as a public health problem, by the year 2000 the estimated caseload by 1994 is 108 whereas the actual figure was 113. Elimination will be achieved when the caseload drops to 60 cases for the population of 600,000.
